How to Breathe 25 Simple Practices for Calm Joy and Resilience Ashley Neese 9780399582714 Books Reviews

  • This book, How to Breathe, is truly life transformative. I have been practicing meditation, working with my breath for some time, but this book has helped me dive even deeper into my myself and my breath. I come out of the practices feeling more grounded and able to take on whatever comes my way. Ashley's words are so comforting that it makes it so easy for anyone to get it; from babies to elders. This book is a life changer and you won't regret buying it, EVER!
  • Ashley’s debut book is invaluable. I am a yoga teacher and frequently reference Ashley as my “breathwork teacher” if I use her practices during classes. I feel deeply connected to this work and am so grateful to have this resource. The photography is soft and calm and is nice to gaze at if you just need to get grounded. Thank you Ashley!
  • Ashley is a dedicated, kind, and skilled breathwork teacher. This book feels very much like having an intimate conversation with her. She lays the groundwork beautifully, teaching readers why we breathe and how it helps us to regulate and heal our nervous system, and then she offers a menu of practices to help work with different situations and emotional states. The practices are as simple and accessible as they are powerful. How to Breathe has quickly become a favorite companion and I practice with it daily.
  • I suffer from allergies--especially in the springtime--that impair my ability to breathe regularly and fall asleep.

Ashley's chapter on Sleep Breath has provided me with a tool that let's me drift off to sleep with an easy-to-practice routine.

    What a difference!
  • Love, Love, Love this book. It is broken into different sections depending on need or emotion. This book is great for anyone who is looking for a little space, to create meaningful rituals or just want to process the abundance of information we absorb in the course of the day. It is aesthetically beautiful. A great gift for anyone on your list!
  • This book is blowing my mind. I received my copy the day it came out and have been using the breathwork practices ever since. Ashley is incredibly inspiring, authentic, and knowledgeable. So grateful for all of her work! I’ve bought copies for several of my friends!
  • Beautifully accessible book that provides 25 breathwork practices. Would be great for someone just learning about breathwork and or anyone looking to deepen their practice. Love this book and know I will be referencing it for many years to come.
  • For full transparency, I am honored to not only be Ashley Neese's first book reviewer and one of the editors of the book in its early stages but also her life partner. Some people might assume that makes me biased. They're probably right, but I am also one of those painfully honest, direct people so hopefully those two attributes even things out enough to warrant you continuing to read on...

I knew that whatever Ashley wrote was going to be good, read over any article on her blog and you'll be able to tell that. And what I mean by good is that Ashley has a way of picking just the right word or words to describe what she wants to say. And she sort of has a language of her own or her own unique creative command of language that is very much grounded in her life experience and decades of self care practices. She uses this language to make the complex simple and accessible which is what makes this book the perfect companion to starting a breathwork or meditation practice.
