Good Self Bad Self How to Bounce Back from a Personal Crisis Judy Smith 9781451650006 Books Reviews

  • I came into this book as a fan. I was having ABC Scandal withdrawal. I loved Kerry Washington's character. When I found out the series was based on Judy Smith and that she had a book out, I had to get this. I thought it would be a book about her crisis mananagement days, but it turned out to be much more, a must read. This was a self help book I think everyone need to read. The saying know thyself comes to mind when I read this. She gives you tools to deal with your worst enemy yourself. She talks about making lists and thats how I deal with personal crisis, I always ask myself before I do something, whats the worst thing that could happen if I do something, whats the worst thing could happen if I don't do something? Whats the best thing that would happen if I dont do something? Whats the best thing that can happen if I dont. In the book I loved how she says we get in most trouble because we don't do self examination. She talks about balance a lot, the same attriubutes that are good can be bad if we don't balance that attribute. I also loved how she didnt just talk about trouble she got high profile clients of and stop there, but she gave us tools to get out of our mess. I loved her even more for that. She talks about the big seven, ego, denial, fear, ambition, accomodation, patience and indulgance, and how if used in the right way these things are good, but used wrong they can be our self destruction. This is so a know thyself type of book, I love it. I'm using some of this for myself. Write on, write on Judy Smith.
  • Hated it! sorry, I couldn't resist but I rather expected a series of anecdotes about clients whom she has helped and how - instead the book was a list of psychological weak points that get people into trouble, like ego and how it may manifest in a persons life, hurt others, etc. But...who cares? Its one facet of the story and only a small one. This does not draw on her considerable expertise of complex problem-solving. I threw it away.
  • Purchases because I love the show 'Scandal' and Olivia Pope, the book was decent, definitely a self help read, but even though I didn't purchase the book for that reason I still enjoyed it and learned a few things.
  • I have found myself in a bit of a life crisis and watched a Dr. Phil episode that spotlighted this book on getting through tough life stuff so I thought what the heck, I will give it a try. This book is really thorough and helpful seeing through the tough stuff and how to avoid it in the future. I am glad I read it. Helped me see a little light at the end of the tunnel.
  • A great book except I was expecting more stories like Scandal, but this book gives great advice. It was delivered on time and with a coupon for next purchase.
  • A thought-provoking book that invites us to examine our own behaviors and explore what steps we can take to improve the quality of our lives and our relationships with others. Much of the author's advice is a matter of common sense, but it is presented in a way that invites reflection and a systematic approach to assessment of potentially harmful behavior. A quick, enjoyable read by a woman with deep wisdom.
  • This text is a ministry. It has the potential to change the life of the reader if they are ready to be honest about their behavior whether intentional or unintentional. It's full of wisdom, everyday wisdom and could save our souls a lot of trouble, unnecessary trouble. Thank you Judy for passing the baton to us. We love you.
  • This book truly discussed the internal wars we experience when change is happening and we want to direct that change.
